  • The first product in the National Product Catalogue with the maximum score

PHOMI MCM has achieved the maximum score as the first building product in the National Product Catalogue. The product has been measured and evaluated according to the Global Sustainable Enterprise System (GSES) based on sustainability, circularity, and health.

The National Product Catalogue (NPC) provides information to become the most reliable source for circular product data: All building products in one database are accessible free of charge to everyone. This facilitates the purchase of sustainable building products. Easy and transparent.

PHOMI produces and supplies flexible eco-tiles, suitable for wall and wall coverings, for indoor and outdoor use. The technologically advanced products are based on clay: Modified Clay Materials (MCM). With the appearance of stone, natural stone, wood, concrete, metal, woven structures and leather. PHOMI products are water-repellent, frost- and heat-resistant, shock- and impact-resistant, non-flammable, durable and 100% recyclable. It is available in an almost infinite number of versions for any desired atmosphere. PHOMI is lightweight, flexible and ultra thin (2 mm) in many versions.

The National Product Catalogue, an initiative of GSES, contains many products, including many hundreds of building products. Of all products in the NPC, PHOMI is the first with the maximum durability score. The products included in the catalogue range from insulation materials to various types of wall coverings.

The score includes the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) and The EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) assessments are based on this. The LCA analysis, also known as cradle-to-cradle analysis, life cycle analysis or cradle-to-cradle analysis, is a method of determining the environmental impact of a product’s entire life cycle, from raw material extraction, through production, transport and use, to waste disposal or processing for reuse. The EDP expresses the environmental impact of a product over the life of a building (60 years).

So far, the highest score on the GSES platform, expressed in ‘blue planets’, was 3,5, while the average score is around 2. Against this background, the maximum score of 5, as now achieved by PHOMI, is given even more expressiveness.

‘As GSES System, we are very proud that PHOMI products have achieved 5 planets and thus the first highest achievable score in the Product database.

PHOMI is thus the leader in the construction industry with a highly innovative product’ Kelly Ruigrok, CEO GSES System.

Need for clarity

Worldwide, there are many quality marks that define the sustainability of a product. Consumers, governments and companies who are looking for sustainable building materials for their procurement are often no longer seeing the forest through the trees.

Level playing field

The National Product Catalogue is set up as an easy-to-access digital registration system, freely accessible to everyone, with information verified by an independent institution. The NPC thus creates a level playing field and facilitates the selection of building products for sustainability. Manufacturers understand the potential for improvement of their offerings. And finally, decision makers can use the NPC to search for available circular product alternatives.

Objective transparency

The NPC provides objective transparency and is therefore of great value for all parties in the construction to make well-balanced choices for actual circular materials. The independent assessment by accredited institutions, based on the clear measurable criteria of GSES, guarantees objectivity.

The GSES system offers a system that measures companies and organisations for sustainable and circular business. It is the first sustainable meat standard: A measurement of performance on all relevant aspects of sustainability. This global platform uses blockchain technology.

GSES objectively compares performance in the field of circularity, sustainability, CO2 emissions, health and safety and thus corporate social responsibility. This will help companies and governments to make more sustainable choices.

A circular construction economy requires strong chain cooperation, uniform measurement methods and accessible data. This is where the NPC is an important link.

PHOMI MCM

PHOMI also has other properties that may be relevant in a material selection. One is that – when used in indoor areas – the material regulates moisture and odours, while viruses can thrive less well and improve air quality. Application of PHOMI also contributes to a more pleasant acoustics. Due to the low production temperature, the primary CO2 footprint is extremely low compared to ceramics. It is easy to process, because of the flexibility of the material also well applicable to hollow or convex surfaces.

Industrial design firm WILLDesign, a well-known player in building innovation, has embraced the product PHOMI. The product is still almost unknown in the Benelux, while 44.000.000 m2 of construction projects are available worldwide every year. WILLDesign (www.welldesign.com) is now committed to introducing PHOMI to the market as a factory representative in the Benelux.
